Nationwaves Expands Beyond Connectivity with UniqCast End-to-End IPTV/OTT Solution
Quick Summary
Zagreb, Croatia – August 27th, 2026 – UniqCast, a provider of end-to-end IPTV/OTT solutions for telecom operators, ISPs, broadcasters and video service providers, has successfully completed the deployment of a new IPTV/OTT solution for Nationwaves Telcom, a telecommunications and broadband provider based in Abuja, Nigeria.
The deployment marks Nationwaves’ expansion beyond high-speed internet connectivity into digital television and video services. Rather than building a standalone OTT application, Nationwaves selected UniqCast to deliver the complete technology environment required for the new service, from IPTV/OTT service management and video delivery to local CDN infrastructure, multiscreen applications and CRM integration.
For Nationwaves, the project represents a strategic opportunity to use infrastructure already deployed for its broadband business to introduce a new value-added service and establish a platform for future growth.
Turning broadband infrastructure into a new service opportunity
Nationwaves provides broadband and other telecommunications and IT services to customers in Abuja. As the company evaluated opportunities to generate additional value from its existing network infrastructure, television emerged as a logical extension of its broadband proposition.
The result is a new, greenfield TV environment supporting Live TV, Video on Demand and Catch-up TV, with access across Smart TVs, mobile devices and web browsers.
For broadband operators, this approach creates an opportunity to move beyond selling connectivity alone. By adding television and digital entertainment services to an existing broadband proposition, operators can create additional touchpoints with subscribers, strengthen their service portfolio and explore new revenue models while making greater use of network infrastructure they already operate.
A complete IPTV/OTT environment deployed inside Nationwaves’ network
At the center of the solution is the UniqCast IPTV/OTT platform, deployed locally in Nationwaves’ data center.
The architecture also includes local CDN infrastructure operating within Nationwaves’ own network, allowing video delivery to be positioned closer to the operator’s subscribers and reducing unnecessary dependence on external delivery infrastructure for traffic that can be served locally.
For a telecom entering the video market, this model offers an important operational advantage: the TV platform becomes an integrated part of the operator’s network environment rather than an isolated service sitting entirely outside it.
The deployment combines the main elements required to operate a modern multiscreen TV service:
- UniqCast IPTV/OTT service delivery platform
- Local CDN and streaming infrastructure
- Live TV
- Video on Demand
- Catch-up TV
- Smart TV applications
- Mobile applications
- Web access
- CRM integration
The end-to-end solution also incorporates technology from CRM.COM, a UniqCast partner, connecting the video environment with the customer-management capabilities needed to support the commercial service.
Building more than an OTT application
“For broadband operators, video represents an opportunity to create considerably more value from the infrastructure and customer relationships they already have. But launching a TV service requires much more than putting an application in front of subscribers. The platform, video delivery, CDN, applications and business systems all need to operate as one service. Nationwaves is a strong example of how an operator can build that complete environment from the beginning and create a foundation that can grow together with the business.”
— Nino Pirtovšek, VP Sales & KAM, UniqCast
The Nationwaves deployment follows UniqCast’s broader focus on enabling telecom operators and ISPs to launch and scale IPTV/OTT services through integrated technology and professional services.
UniqCast’s experience spans both greenfield service launches and modernization of existing IPTV/OTT environments, with deployments for telecom operators, ISPs and broadcasters across multiple international markets.
Nigeria’s expanding digital audience strengthens the video opportunity
Nationwaves is entering the video market as digital media consumption continues to expand in Nigeria.
PwC’s Africa Entertainment and Media Outlook 2025–2029 reports that Nigeria has more than 107 million internet users and recorded 11.2% entertainment and media market growth in 2024, the highest rate among the African markets covered in its analysis. PwC identifies OTT streaming among the areas contributing to that expansion and expects mobile internet and video streaming to remain important drivers of growth.
The wider connectivity picture across Africa also continues to expand. GSMA’s Mobile Economy Africa 2025 reports 416 million mobile internet users across the continent, representing 28% population penetration.
At the same time, the market continues to face challenges around broadband availability, quality, affordability and monetization. That makes delivery architecture particularly important. For operators that already own broadband infrastructure and serve established connectivity customers, integrating video more directly into their network can provide a different route into the streaming market than building a service dependent entirely on external distribution infrastructure.
Nationwaves’ approach reflects that opportunity: use the broadband network not only to provide internet access, but as the foundation for delivering additional digital services.
Creating a foundation for Nationwaves’ TV business
“Our objective was to look beyond connectivity and identify services that could create additional value for our customers while making effective use of the infrastructure we have already built. Television is a natural extension of that strategy. With UniqCast, we will shortly have an integrated platform for delivering Live TV, on-demand and Catch-up services across the screens our customers use, while retaining the flexibility to develop the service as our requirements and audience grow.”
— Luqman Mamudu Executive ,Chairman, Nationwaves Telcom.
The deployment gives Nationwaves a robust environment that can be developed alongside its evolving video business.
Its combination of locally deployed IPTV/OTT technology, in-network video delivery, multiscreen access and CRM integration provides the operator with the core technical building blocks needed to establish and progressively expand its TV proposition.
For UniqCast, the project also demonstrates a model increasingly relevant to broadband providers: turning connectivity infrastructure into a platform for new digital services rather than treating broadband as the final product.
